NOTHING TO SEE HERE

Words and music by Lachlan Irvine

[G][D][Em]/[C][G][D]/

[G] It's so beaut to be [D] living in the Lucky [Em] Country,
There's [C] nowhere else on [G] Earth I'd rather [D] be;
We've got a [Bm] democratic system that's the [C] envy of the world,
And [G] laws that [D] keep us [C] all safe and [G] free.
Nothing to [C] see here, there's nothing [G] wrong,
Nothing to [C] see here, [D] move a-[G]-long. [D][Em]/[C][G][D]/

[G] Kids are having [D] fun in the [Em] city,
As [C] kids will do on [G] any Saturday [D] night;
[Bm] Black kids leave in a paddy wagon, [C] white kids go home free,
And [G] we just [D] say "no [C] worries, she'll be [G] right".
Nothing to [C] see here, there's nothing [G] wrong,
Nothing to [C] see here, [D] move a-[G]-long. [D][Em]/[C][G][D]/

[G] Sitting with a good old [D] friend at a protest [Em] camp,
We were [C] trying to pro-[G]-tect a sacred [D] site;
[Bm] Cops charged in and grabbed him, shouting [C] "trespass is a crime,"
But they [G] would not [D] touch me, [C] 'cause my skin was [G] white.
Nothing to [C] see here, there's nothing [G] wrong,
Nothing to [C] see here, [D] move a-[G]-long. [D][Em]/[C][G][D]/

[G] Our anthem tells us [D] we've got boundless [Em] plains
[C] To share with those who [G] come across the [D] sea;
But [Bm] if they come here asking us for [C] shelter from the storm
We'll [G] lock them [D] up and [C] throw away the [G] key.
Nothing to [C] see here, there's nothing [G] wrong,
Nothing to [C] see here, [D] move a-[G]-long. [D][Em]/[C][G][D]/

A [G] government can [D] hide from its [Em] people,
The [C] deeds it's been com-[G]-mitting in our [D] name;
But [Bm] future generations will [C] turn to you and me,
For [G] expla-[D]-nations [C] of our country's [G] shame.
Nothing to [C] see here, there's nothing [G] wrong,
Nothing to [C] see here, [D] move a-[G]-long. [D][Em]/[C][G][D]/

So [G] if you're rich and [D] white in the Lucky [Em] Country,
[C] There's no better [G] place for you to [D] be;
We've got a [Bm] democratic system that's [C] created just for you,
And our [G] laws will [D] always [C] keep you safe and [G] free.
Nothing to [C] see here, there's nothing [G] wrong,
Nothing to [C] see here, [D] move a-[G]-long.
Nothing to [C] see here, there's nothing [G] wrong,
Nothing to [C] see here, [D] move a-[G]-long. [D][Em]/[C][G][D]/[G]

The second verse refers to something I saw in the Perth CBD, where groups of teenagers were heading for Hoyts cinema. A police car pulled up beside the only indigenous group, and within seconds they had grabbed a young boy, thrown him into a paddy wagon and taken him away while the Saturday night crowd of people hardly seemed to notice, as if this was normal behaviour.

The third verse refers to the Swan Brewery protest camp. On the morning of the police raid I was sitting with Len Culbong, indigenous activist and 9RAR Vietnam veteran. When the police raided, they whisked away all of the indigenous leaders, leaving white protesters like me chasing after the paddy wagons yelling "What about me?"
