QUASI-EXISTENTIAL BLUES

Lachlan Irvine

[Bb] I got the blues and I got 'em bad

I'm missin' somethin' that I never had

[Eb] If I don't change my life somehow

[Bb] I'll never know what I don't know now

[Eb] Good Golly Miss Molly, don't you step on my blue suede [Bb] shoes,

Oh no,

I got the [F] No Direction, [Eb] Quasi-Existential [Bb] Blues.

[Bb] Magpies warblin' at the early light

Means I been tossin' and turnin' all night

[Eb] Got to get up and face a brand new day

[Bb] So much not to do, even less to say

[Eb] Got no connections and I pay no union [Bb] dues,

Whoah-oh,

I got the [F] No Direction, [Eb] Quasi-Existential [Bb] Blues.

[Bb] My baby done me, yeah, she done me wrong

But I won't worry over her too long

[Eb] Girls like her ain't so hard to find

[Bb] 'Cause she's not real, she was all in my mind

[Eb] When you ain't got nothing, that's when you got nothin' to [Bb] lose,

Uh-huh,

I got the [F] No Direction, [Eb] Quasi-Existential [Bb] Blues.

[Bb] Don't you shed no tears for me

I'm gonna make it, just you wait and see

[Eb] I'll make it better than it's ever been

[Bb] Just got to work out what 'make it' means

[Eb] Roll over Chuck Berry and tell Bo Diddley the [Bb] news,

Oh yeah,

I got the [F] No Direction, [Eb] Quasi-Existential [Bb] Blues.

It can be fun to write the occasional song that's totally devoid of meaning. Of course, a song like that must be given a pretentious title.
