AMOS AND JOHN

Words and music by Lachlan Irvine

[G][D][G]/[C]/[G]/[C][D7][G][D]

[G] The truth will [D] set you [G] free, the [C] truth will set you [G] free.
[C] Seek the truth, the [D7] truth will set you [G] free. [D]

In these [G] lands we [D] call Aus-[G]-tralia, there's [C] so much to be [G] learned;
[C] Reconciliation is a [D7] prize that must be [G] earned. [D]

[G] The truth will [D] set you [G] free, the [C] truth will set you [G] free.
[C] Seek the truth, the [D7] truth will set you [G] free. [D]

The [G] histories [D] have been [G] written, sur-[C]-vivors' stories [G] told;
No [C] need to go on listening to the [D7] hollow tales of [G] old. [D]

[G] The truth will [D] set you [G] free, the [C] truth will set you [G] free.
[C] Seek the truth, the [D7] truth will set you [G] free. [D]

[G] The future [D] is un-[G]-written, the [C] die has not been [G] cast;
We can [C] break the chains that [D7] tie us to the [G] past. [D]

[G] The truth will [D] set you [G] free, the [C] truth will set you [G] free.
[C] Seek the truth, the [D7] truth will set you [G] free. [D]

[G] Justice rolls [D] down as [G] waters, [C] righteousness a mighty [G] stream;
[C] If we will it, it [D7] need not be a [G] dream. [D]

[G] The truth will [D] set you [G] free, the [C] truth will set you [G] free.
[C] Seek the truth, the [D7] truth will set you [G] free. [D]

[G] The truth will [D] set you [G] free, the [C] truth will set you [G] free.
[C] Seek the truth, the [D7] truth will set you [G] free.

I attended an indigenous service on Australia Day Eve, 2020. The texts were from Amos (justice runs down like water) and John (the truth will set you free). I was so impressed that most of this song came to me on the drive home from the service. To hear my home-made recording of this song, go to:
